"Politics Around Love"

from Unreleased: Timeless Early Gems by Keith Thompson

/

about

"Politics Around Love" was sparked by my then infatuation with the zouk sound and a story that came to my mind about a privileged girl in Papa Doc Haiti in love with a poor boy. The forbidden love comes to a head where the young man has to run away from Haiti. Like many at the time, he barely survives on a boat to America. Never forgetting his love back home, he finds work and makes plans to somehow reunite. The song declares his love for her while communicating through phone calls. Their hope of seeing each other again is fading.

From my 1992 album for EMI that was never completed or released. It was intended to be a ground breaking album of multi-dimensions: socio-political commentary, introspective love songs, with varied dance rhythms: reggae, hip-hop, Zouk, and house, all to timelessly moved people's mind, body, and soul.
